GLOBAL NICKEL WRAP: US cut cathode premium drops, others steady; China's sulfate price continues climb

Premiums for nickel plate and briquette in China were flat in the week to Tuesday February 23 amid a lack of spot activity, but the nickel sulfate price in the country rose to a fresh all-time high, with a robust domestic electric vehicle (EV) market providing support.

Premiums in Europe were also unchanged this past week, as were those for briquette in the United States, but US cut cathode premiums fell for the second time this year.

Nickel premiums in China were unchanged this week due to a lack of spot activity, with many Chinese participants only just returning to the market following the Lunar New Year holidays (February 11-17).
Fastmarkets' monthly assessment of the nickel min 99.8% briquette premium, cif Shanghai was $160-200 per tonne on Tuesday, flat from January 26.
