GLOBAL NICKEL WRAP: US premium rise, global premiums buoyed

Nickel premiums in the US rose while premiums in Europe and Asia were stable, sources told Fastmarkets.

Nickel premiums in the United States rose, with the premium for nickel briquette up by 9% over the week to Tuesday June 1and consolidating recent gains, while the premium for nickel cut cathodes was up by 1 cent per lb on the high end now that the aerospace sector has come back to life after being near dormant during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
Fastmarkets assessed the nickel briquette premium, delivered Midwest US at 16-20 cents per lb on June 1, up from 15-18 cents per lb on May 25.

Some spot business was done higher for several weeks - mostly at or above 18 cents per lb - but offers at 16 cents per lb were also missed...
