GLOBAL SILICON SNAPSHOT: US silicon price continues downtrend; Chinese export price drops in a buyer's market

The grade 553 silicon price fell for a ninth consecutive month because buyers remain supplied by contracts which has led to slow spot trading.  The price could find upward support soon, though because spot activity is expected to be busier next year due to the decrease in contract purchases. This will occur at a time when a large portion of supply is expected to be removed from the market following Ferroglobe's production curb plan.  Ferroglobe is planning to idle one fifth of its silicon metal production capacity in Europe and the US.
