GLOBAL SILICON WRAP: Chinese silicon export price ticks up on increased inquiries; European prices stable

Chinese silicon export prices edged up last week despite the limited number of trades seen following China's Labour Day break (April 29-May 1), with a greater number of inquiries from regions other than Japan boosting sentiment in the country's export market.

Metal Bulletin assessed the China grade 553 silicon export price at $1,910-1,960 per tonne on Friday May 4, up by 0.5% from $1,900-1,950 per tonne a week earlier.A greater number of inquiries from Europe and South East Asia were heard by Chinese exporters over the past week, while Japanese buyers are expected to conduct a fresh round of procurement this week following Japan's Golden Week holiday last week."Buyers from Europe, Malaysia and South Korea were more active in sending over inquiries. In addition, after Japanese traders come back from the Golden Week holiday, they are likely to restart purchasing soon," a trader from China said, adding that Chinese silicon export prices are likely to be underpinned by the increased buying appetite.
