Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver End Slightly Lower, Dow Drops Markedly

The Metals:

Gold dropped $7.50 to $1334.50 in Asia before it bounced back to $1348.90 by a little after 9AM EST, but it then fell back off into the close and ended with a loss of 0.39%. Silver slipped to as low as $17.073 and ended with a loss of 0.41%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1078, platinum lost $14.50 to $991.50, and copper remained at about $3.20.

Gold and silver equities fell roughly 1% by late morning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow brings ADP Employment, the Employment Cost Index, Chicago PMI, Pending Home Sales, and a FOMC Meeting Announcement.

The Markets:

Oil fell almost 2% more on concerns about rising supplies.

The U.S. dollar index waffled near unchanged along with the euro and yen on mixed economic data.

Treasuries fell along with the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P on disruption in the healthcare industry.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Apple, Pfizer, Blackstone and Thomson Reuters, UnitedHealth, HCA Healthcare, Wal-Mart, and Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan.
