Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver Fall Almost 1% and 3%

The Metals:

Gold fell $13.40 to $1322.20 in early afternoon New York trade before it edged back higher in the last couple of hours, but it still ended with a loss of 0.79%. Silver slipped to as low as $16.592 and ended with a loss of 2.92%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1085, platinum lost $9 to $915, and copper dropped 3 cents to about $3.11.

Gold and silver equities fell nearly 3% in the first half hour of trade before they bounced back higher at times, but they still ended about 2% lower on the day.

The Economy:

Manufacturers expanding at fastest pace in three years, flash PMI data show MarketWatch

Tomorrow brings S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller HPI, the FHFA House Price Index, New Home Sales, and Consumer Confidence.

The Markets:

Oil reversed early losses and ended modestly higher on concerns about escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The U.S. dollar index followed interest rates higher.

Treasuries fell on speculation that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates more than previously expected.

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly lower on uncertainty about interest rates and tech growth.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Rusal, Hasbro, ZTE Corp, Tencent, Halliburton, Netflix, and Sears.
