The Metals:

Gold edged up to $1327.90 in Asia before it dropped back to $1315.00 in midafternoon New York trade and then bounced back higher into the close, but it still ended with a loss of 0.66%. Silver slipped to as low as $16.366 and ended with a loss of 0.97%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1070, platinum lost $9 to $950, and copper dropped 3 cents to about $3.11.

Gold and silver equities fell over 1% in the first hour of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow brings Housing Starts, Industrial Production, Consumer Sentiment, and Job Openings.

The Markets:

Oil found modest gains on robust global demand indicators.

The U.S. dollar index climbed higher on mostly better than expected economic data.

Treasuries pared early losses and closed mixed along with the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P on conflicting concerns about tariffs.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Virgin Atlantic, Unilever, Walmart, iHeartMedia, Toys 'R' Us, Home Depot, and Wells Fargo.
