The Metals:

Gold drifted lower throughout most of world trade and ended near its late session low of $1173.20 with a loss of 1.63%. Silver slipped to as low as $14.367 and ended with a loss of 4.31%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1036, platinum lost $36 to $765, and copper dropped 10 cents to about $2.58.

Gold and silver equities fell roughly 6% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow brings Weekly jobless claims, Housing starts, Building permits, and the Philly Fed index.

The Markets:

Oil fell over 3% after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 6.8 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 740,000 barrels, and distillates rose 3.6 million barrels.

The U.S. dollar index held near unchanged and treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped on concerns that Turkey's recent currency and trade troubles will spread to other emerging markets.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Constellation Brands, GE, Macy's, Diamondback Energy, and Royal Caribbean.
