Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver Gain with Oil While Stocks Fall

The Metals:

Gold gained $24.40 to as high as $1365.10 in late morning New York trade before it fell back under $1350 by a little after 2PM EST, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.78%. Silver rose to as high as $16.866 and ended with a gain of 0.48%.

Euro gold rose to about EUR1093, platinum gained $2 to $929, and copper dropped 2 cents to about $3.11.

Gold and silver equities rose roughly 3% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

The Economy:

Tomorrow brings Initial Jobless Claims and Import and Export Prices.

The Markets:

Oil rose 2% on rising tensions in the Middle East.

The U.S. dollar index traded mostly lower and treasuries found modest gains as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped on geopolitics and fed uncertainty.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Deutsche Bank, Facebook, and CBS-Viacom.
