The Metals:

Gold gained $5.30 to $1198.70 by late morning in New York before it chopped back down to $1192.20 by early afternoon, but then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.08%. Silver rose to as high as $15.107 and ended with a gain of 0.53%.

Euro gold rose to about EUR1053, platinum gained $2 to $801, and copper fell 5 cents to about $2.68.

Gold and silver equities fell over 1% by midafternoon and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow brings Retail sales, the Empire state index, Productivity, Unit labor costs, Industrial production, Capacity utilization, the Home builders' index, and Business inventories.

The Markets:

Oil closed slightly lower in mixed trade ahead of tomorrow's inventory report.

The U.S. dollar index rose as the euro fell on concerns about the exposure of European banks to Turkey.

Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on healthy earnings reports.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Ford, Tesla, Wells Fargo, Nvidia, Home Depot, and NIO.
