The Metals:

Gold dipped $6 to $1331.30 in Asia before it bounced up to $1342.40 in early afternoon New York trade and then drifted back lower at times, but it still ended with a gain of 0.25%. Silver chopped between $16.435 and $16.645 and ended with a gain of 0.48%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1085, platinum lost $4 to $927, and copper climbed 6 cents to about $3.13.

Gold and silver equities rose roughly 1% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow brings CPI, FOMC Minutes, and the Treasury Budget.

The Markets:

Oil gained over 3% on improving trade talk and concerns about rising tensions in Syria.

The U.S. dollar index fell as the euro rose on remarks from European Central Bank Governing Council member Ewald Nowotny that indicated an end to their quantitative-easing program this year.

Treasuries edged lower as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed roughly 2% higher on easing trade tensions.

Among the big names making news in the market today were VW, Boeing, Kroger, and Netflix.
