New York spot gold lost $1.70 to $1,324.20 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.77 points to 827.28 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.30 point to 184.15. Klondex Mines Ltd. (KDX) helped lead Canadian gold miners higher today, adding 12 cents to $1.97 on 1.23 million shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) was weak again, dropping 10 cents to $9.74 on 1.34 million shares.
Greg McCunn's Alio Gold Inc. (ALO), down eight cents to $3.05 on 494,000 shares, has received assays of up to 6.45 grams of gold per tonne over 19 metres from its first hole of a new drill program at the Ana Paula project in Guerrero, Mexico. The encouraging hit occurred within a 45.2-metre zone that averaged 3.41 grams per tonne. Six holes, to depths of between 600 and 700 metres, are planned in the current program, which is targeting the complex breccia extension lying beneath the company's proposed open pit.
