New York spot gold lost $8.50 to $1,315.70 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 0.80 point to 828.08 while the TSX Gold Index slipped 0.86 point to 183.29. Klondex Mines Ltd. (KDX) led Canadian gold miners lower today, slumping 22 cents to $1.75 on 1.94 million shares. Klondex said late yesterday that it lost $23.66-million (U.S.) in 2017. Paul Huet, president and chief executive officer, lauded Klondex's history of setting and achieving operating targets,then acknowledged that it missed its 2017 targets.
Peter Gundy and Eric Owens's Alexandria Minerals Corp. (AZX), up one-half cent to nine cents on 1.03 million shares, has received assays of up to 3.79 grams of gold per tonne across 19.5 metres, including an 8.5-metre zone averaging 5.12 grams per tonne, at Zone 2 on its Orenada project near Val d'Or. The assays are from the first 14 holes of a 27-hole, drill program on the project. The best assay came from a hole drilled 100 metres west of the area containing an existing resource estimate. Meanwhile, infill holes confirmed mineralization continuity at Zone 2, with hits of up to 3.62 grams per tonne across 10.3 metres.
