New York spot gold gained $21.00 to $1,332.00 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.06 point to 831.15 while the TSX Gold Index gained 2.65 points to 185.82. Guyana Goldfields Inc. (GUY) led Canadian gold miners higher today, adding 16 cents to $5.27 on 1.19 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) was also strong. It rose 55 cents to $12.79 on 2.03 million shares.
Dr. Michael Byron's Nighthawk Gold Corp. (NHK), down three cents to 61 cents on 236,000 shares, has begun drilling at Colomac on its Indin Lake gold project in the Northwest Territories. Dr. Byron, president and chief executive officer, says that Nighthawk has three drill rigs that will be busy until September in what is expected to be a 25,000-metre program. The company hopes to expand the No. 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 zones at Colomac, as well as Goldcrest and Grizzly Bear, both along strike and at depth. As well, Nighthawk will seek other zones of high-grade gold within the sills.
