New York spot gold lost $2.80 to $1,319.80 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 13.17 points to 839.19 while the TSX Gold Index rose 2.35 points to 183.76. Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD), above $10 two years ago but just $1.35 last week, led Canadian gold miners higher, adding nine cents to $1.50 on 4.91 million shares. Endeavour Mining Corp. (EDV) managed a four-cent gain, closing at $24.62 on 385,000 shares.

Brad Kitchen's Secova Metals Corp. (SEK), up one-half cent to 2.5 cents on 593,000 shares, has received assays of up to 19.29 grams of gold per tonne over 1.5 metres at its Duvay-Chenier gold project, north of Val d'Or in Quebec. (Secova can earn a 65-per-cent interest from Laura Lee Duffett's Tres-Or Resources Ltd. (TRS: $0.05) by spending $3.25-million on exploration and a 90-per-cent interest by completing a prefeasibility study.) The high-grade hit was embedded within a 51-metre zone that averaged 0.69 gram per tonne.The assays, from seven holes drilled at the Duvay zone, produced a second noteworthy intersection, averaging 9.51 grams per tonne across 1.5 metres. That interval occurred within a 93-metre zone that averaged 0.24 gram per tonne.
