New York spot gold rose $1.00 to $1,304.60 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.35 points to 772.11 while the TSX Gold Index rose 0.38 point to 189.84. Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) led Canadian gold miners higher. It added 13 cents to $3.80 on 6.31 million shares. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) moved lower, dropping 21 cents to $7.75 on 1.79 million shares.
Ari Sussman and Leon Teicher's Continental Gold Inc. (CNL), up six cents to $3.58 on 450,000 shares, has received assays of up to 28.35 grams of gold and 62.8 grams of silver per tonne across 4.25 metres at the Veta Sur system at its Buritica project in Colombia. A second hole yielded 22.4 grams of gold and 51.1 grams of silver per tonne across four metres; a third produced 6.53 grams of gold and 37.3 grams of silver per tonne across 10.05 metres. The assays are from seven holes drilled into Veta Sur. Continental also encountered gold at the Laurel target, just south of Veta Sur, which yielded assays of up to 59.2 grams of gold and 86.1 grams of silver per tonne across 0.5 metre and 14.05 grams of gold and 11.4 grams of silver per tonne across 1.65 metres.
