Goldcorp Names 4 Finalist Vying For $1 Million To #Disruptmining

(Kitco News)- In its continued attempted to promote innovation in themining Sector, Goldcorp is giving four companies the opportunity to presenttheir ideas to #disruptmining and win $1 million in potential investmentcapital.

Luis Canepari, vice-president of technology at Goldcorp(NYSE: GG, TSX: G,) said the company went through hundreds of submissions tofind the best of the best in innovation. He added that the top four submissionsand eight semi-finalists are a “fantastic” representation of the technologythat has the potential to change the mining sector.

“Our goal was to uncover the next revolutionary concept thatwill truly disrupt our industry. We were incredibly impressed by the caliber ofsubmissions we received this year and look forward to engaging in discussionswith all the semi-finalists and finalists,” said Goldcorp COO, Todd White in apress release.

The top four proposals touch on every aspect of the miningprocess from how minerals are extracted and a company sells its concentrate, tonew drilling and mapping technology and innovations that allow companies tomake real-time management decisions

The four finalists will now have the chance to present theirproposals Sunday evening during Goldcorp’s marque evening during theProspectors & Developers Association of Canada conference. Each companywill present their idea in front of a panel of mining sector heavyweights: RobMcEwen, CEO of McEwen Mining; Blanca Trevi??o, President & CEO, Softtek andDirector of Goldcorp; George Salamis, President & CEO, Integra Resources;Veronica Knott, University of British Columbia Mining Engineering student andWal van Lierop, President & CEO, Chrysalix Venture Capital.

Canepari said that the expert panel will now have theformidable task of picking the best proposal that will walk away with the $1million investment.

“While there will be one winner for the evening, this is justthe start; I don’t believe the discussion with the other companies will stop,”he said. “We are excited about all the ideas that have been submitted. Goldcorpwould be interested in potentially partnering with all the finalists andsemi-finalists.”

Here is a look at the four top finalists:

Acoustic Zoom Inc.: was as a semi-finalist in 2017 and isback after streamlining its proposal, which proposes to use high-frequency 3Dimaging to map complex geological formations.EnviroLeach Technologies: the company has developed theworld’s only safe, stable, sustainable, eco-friendly and economical alternativeto cyanide. LlamaZOO Interactive Inc.: The company is promoting itsMineLife VR, a software platform which enables companies to represent a mineplan from exploration to reclamation in an interactive 1:1 scale using virtualreality, Open Mineral AG: the company proposes to digitize the relic practices ofphysical commodity trading that have operated the same way for decades, withstreamlined contract negotiations and execution to increase efficiency andprofitability for the participants.
