Good prices, strong demand push Turkish flat steel exports up by 40% in 2017

Turkey exported 4.18 million tonnes of flat steel products in 2017, an increase of 40.22% compared with 2016's 2.98 million tonnes, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

Competitive pricing and strong demand in Europe and North Africa were the major factors behind the rise, market commentators said.Demand for Turkish coated coil, especially hot-dipped galvanized coil (HDG), increased in 2017, largely due to the anti-dumping investigation by the European Commission (EC) into Chinese HDG, which began in December 2016."We know that demand for Turkish flat steel has improved due to the anti-dumping [action taken by the EC] against China," Cem ?oest? 1/4 n, chief executive officer of Turkey's Atakas Group said in an interview with Metal Bulletin in April 2017."This will continue in the short term, but we will have to see how this develops in the long term.
