(IDEX Online) - Hackers who plundered the London jeweler Graff have issued a groveling apology to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and other Middle East leaders.In a bizarre twist, the Russian-based Conti gang posted a "press release" apologizing for any inconvenience and pledging to delete all their details.It said, however, that it had no issues about posting information on US and EU citizens.The apology was made to "members of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar families" including the Saudi Crown Prince (pictured), according to The Mail on Sunday (MoS), which broke the story last week.He is widely suspected of ordering the assassination of dissident Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey in 2018.MoS quotes Philip Ingram, a former colonel in British military intelligence, as saying: 'This apology to the Saudis suggests there were some potentially serious repercussions about to be visited on the Conti gang."Conti used ransomware to steal details of the jeweler's database of high-profile clients - including Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks - then threatened to publish them.
