GULF FLAT STEEL IMPORTS: Prices rise sharply, offers limited

Flat steel import offer prices to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia increased sharply in the week to Tuesday, March 23, although only a few offers were received, sources told Fastmarkets.

"Most mills in China and India have stopped offering this week and any new offers are expected to be even higher, [but] demand is very weak in our region," a UAE-based trader said.
China and India are the main exporters of flat steel to the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Offers for hot-rolled coil were limited because demand in India's domestic market was strong along with a competitive export market. In China, meanwhile, there was still uncertainty about whether there would be an export rebate cut.
