GULF FLAT STEEL IMPORTS: Prices rising sharply, buyers wait to book

Flat steel import prices to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia continued to increase sharply while buyers were hesitant to make bookings because they were uncertain if prices would stay high, sources told Fastmarkets on Tuesday March 16.

"The market is not absorbing the price increases until now but if the increases continue like this, there would be no other option than to accept," one trader said.
The market uncertainty has been borne from expectations of an export rebate cut from China - one of the main exporters of flat steel to both countries.
Saudi Arabia
Taiwan offered hot-rolled coil (HRC) at $820 per tonne cfr Saudi Arabia, while China-origin HRC was on offer at $820-830 per tonne cfr.
