(IDEX Online) - As fears over the spread of the coronavirus mount, show organizers in Hong Kong have announced that some upcoming events have been postponed.

The Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC) has moved the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show 2020 (originally scheduled for March 2-6) and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show 2020 (originally scheduled for March 4-8) to May 18-21. The twin shows will be concurrently held at the AsiaWorld-Expo.

HKTDC said the move is in line with the measures taken by the Hong Kong SAR Government against the spread of the novel coronavirus, and was done after consultation with representatives of the jewelry industry.

The SEASONS | Spring - Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair, which was scheduled for March 3-6 has also been postponed. Show organizer Informa Markets has not announced the new date.

"The safety of our customers and our staff is always our top priority," Informa Markets wrote in an email. "As such, we are taking precautions and safety measures as recommended by the local Departments of Health in Hong Kong and China as well as the World Health Organisation (WHO) seriously."
