House committee votes for aluminium import monitoring system

A United States House committee has voted to introduce the Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIMA) system to track metal entering the country, with the goal of creating an early-warning system for excessive increases in imports.

As part of the fiscal year 2021 Commerce, Justice, Science & Related Agencies appropriations bill, the House Committee on Appropriations voted to allocate $800,000 to support the AIMA system, which will help enhance data analytics and research into aluminium global trade trends.
The system is backed by the Aluminum Association, which represents companies that make 70% of the aluminium and aluminium products shipped in North America.
