HRD Antwerp NV is collaborating with MAGILABS (Rome/Helsinki) and offering and advanced, two-day workshop on spectroscopy. This course is aimed at diamond traders and experts; appraisers and graders; jewelers and designers; sales managers, buyers and job seekers.
In its invitation for the course HRD Antwerp wrote: "Within the world of diamonds, one of the hot topics continues to be the one of laboratory grown diamonds and how to detect them, whether they are part of a parcel or mounted. The solution to this problem is spectroscopy. You will also get the chance to actively measure and analyse diamonds. Our instructors will explain the reactions of synthetic and natural stones to different wavelengths."
The course will be taught by the two partners in MAGILABS, Alberto Scarani, of Rome, Italy, and Mikko Astrom of Helsinki, Finland. They will be joined by Marleen Bouman of HRD Antwerp.
Students will learn about and gain hands-on experience in the use of Raman/Photoluminescence spectroscopy; Fourier-Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy (FTIR); UV-Vis-NIR Spectroscopy; Fluorescence spectroscopy; the latter to identify natural diamonds, treated natural diamonds and synthetic diamonds, loose and mounted.
They use of the following instruments will be taught: xa, GemmoRaman-532 and GemmoRaman-532SG; GemmoFTir; and the GemmoSphere, developed by MAGILABS. HRD's M-Screen+, D-Tect, Alpha IR spectrometer and D-Screen - all developed and commercialized by HRD Antwerp will be part of the teaching materials.
