(IDEX Online) - India's exports of polished diamonds increased month-on-month by over a third (34 per cent) in January as manufacturers re-stocked after a two-month ban on rough purchases.Overall gross exports were $1.16bn, up from $862m in December, according to new figures from the GJEPC (Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council). There are clear signs of recovery, although January exports remain almost 20 per cent below those of the same month last year ($1.44m).India's exports were $1.1bn in November 2023, $1.26bn in October and $1.67bn in September. The diamond sector appears to be trailing behind gems and jewelry in general, which saw a month-on-month increase of 9 per cent (to $2.39bn), although that figure was down 5 per cent on last year.
