(IDEX Online) - India's polished diamond exports rose by 19.4% on the year in October, according to provisional data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Exports of cut and polished goods totaled $2.31 billion compared with $1.93 billion in October 2017.
Imports of polished stones dropped 33.1% on the year to $92.1 million in October.
Total gem and jewelry exports from jumped 9% to $3.63 billion.
For the first seven months of the fiscal year 2018-19, polished diamond exports rose 8.37% to $14.99 billion. Imports of polished diamonds declined by 35.9% to $860.7 million.
Meanwhile, rough imports were up by 22.7% last month to $990.1 million, while in volume terms rough imports rose to 9.66 million carats from 9.44 million carats in October 2017.
For the fiscal year so far, imports of rough diamonds decreased by 5.6% to $9.41 billion. In volume terms, imports declined by 6.2% to 94.3 million carats.
