(IDEX Online) - CIBJO (the World Jewellery Confederation) is to work together with the International Grown Diamond Association (IGDA) to help consumers make informed choices. They will jointly address friction between the lab grown and natural diamond sectors."We all agree that a strategy of deriding natural diamonds or laboratory-grown diamond products is not conducive to consumers' understanding of either sector," said Joanna Park-Tonks, IGDA president. She said the co-ordinated approach "sends a clear signal to the global jewellery industry to set personal agendas and egos aside, placing the consumer and their best interests at the heart of our work."The agreement was formalized yesterday during the National Association of Jewellers' Summit in the UK city of Birmingham. The UK-based IGDA will become a member of CIBJO's Laboratory Grown Diamond Committee, which has developed a Laboratory Grown Diamond Guidance document. It aims to define universal trading and handling practices for lab growns, safeguarding their identity and enabling consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.Pic shows Joanna Park-Tonks (left), president of IGDA, and Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, signing an agreement to work together.
