RAPAPORT... Texas jeweler James Avery, creator of a popular brand thatbears his name, has died at 96. "We are forever grateful to Mr. Avery for giving us theopportunity to be a part of his dream," the retailer said in a Twitter post on Monday."He was a dynamic, creative and generous man who touched the lives of manypeople during his lifetime through his work, his art and his giving spirit. Hiscontributions will always be remembered as the company continues to build uponhis artistic legacy." Avery began his business in 1954 in a two-car garage witha $250 budget. He handcrafted all the pieces in his first line, which waspredominantly Christian-themed. His designs showcase clean and fluid styles,according to the company website. "I strive to keep designs from being contrived, cluttered orcute," Avery once said. "The challenge is to keep things simple." In 1988, Avery received a San Antonio Entrepreneur of the Yearaward.
