1. 2020 Market Outlook with Raoul Pal - Real Vision (free)
Raoul Pal, Real Vision CEO and The Global Macro Investor (GMI) joins Ed Harrison to share his views on the state of the business cycle, fixed income and credit markets and more. Raoul was negative on the global economy last summer. Markets and sentiment have bounced back but he is doubling down big time on his bearish view (bullish if you are a bond investor). He believes this extended business cycle is in deep trouble and he provides his take on the best way to position for a major economic contraction this year. The interview took place on January 16th.
Manufacturing sends a warning
It is not all doom and gloom on Real Vision today. Michael Kantrowitz, chief investment strategist at Cornerstone Macro, explains why Pal's take on manufacturing data may be wrong.
Meanwhile, noting ultra-low interest rates, narrow credit spreads, and a record-low level of cyclicality in the S&P 500, Kantrowitz argues that while the stock market is certainly expensive, it may not necessarily be overvalued. He recommends a balanced approach that favors value stocks over growth, cyclical over non-cyclical, and domestic over foreign. This video was filmed on January 21, 2020 in New York and is available to Canadian Insider Club Ultra members.
2. Three reasons for contrarians to consider Aecon Group - INK Research (free)
If Pal is right about his dire outlook on the global economy, it is a pretty good bet that policy makers will respond with more infrastructure spending. That could eventually benefit Aecon Group (ARE) which failed at a breakout attempt last year. INK Research takes a look at some positive signals that might appeal to contrarians.
