James W. Fraser (Professor of History and Education at NYU-http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/faculty/Jam...) interview by Neus Lorenzo (European expert on educational innovation and teacher training) in the framework of the project "Innovative pedagogies for powerful learning" http://www.fbofill.cat/innovative-tea... -What do you think we have in common, here in Europe and in the United States, related to how we teach our kids at school and how we prepare our teachers at the University?-What are today's needs in education and teacher training, in the American education system and everywhere in the world?-Now in the Digital Age, Universities seem to have pinned their hopes on technology to solve most of their problems: How is all this going to affect existing Teacher Training Models?-Teacher training might even occur outside the University. How should University teachers open to other agents and methodologies?------------Recognition of the importance of pedagogy has been growing in OECD's educational work and recognised increasingly in the drives to reform schooling around the world. The common policy variables of structures, regulation and institutional arrangements, and resourcing are relatively far removed from pedagogy and what is often dubbed "the classroom" i.e. the places and practices on the ground that most directly influence learning. Yet, because pedagogical relations play out at the micro level through the interactions of learners and educators in innumerable settings and episodes - which are extremely hard to capture in a single system let alone across many - this has proved to be an elusive area for international exchange and analysis. There is need for manageable, more detailed understanding of the pedagogical choices and impacts while moving beyond very simple dichotomies like traditional vs non-traditional or direct instruction vs constructivist. This project will bring together work already carried out plus new chapters to be commissioned. It will aim to scope the terrain, and to do this on the basis of research and commissioned chapters.http://www.fbofill.cat/innovative-tea... #InnoEduCat----------------------Entrevista a James W.
