International miners in DRC optimistic that mining code concerns will be resolved

Major international mining companies active in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remain optimistic they will resolve their concerns about the recently-revised mining code in a manner that is in the best interests of all parties, including the government and other key groups.

The country's civil society is playing a key role in the discussion process and contributing to a better understanding of certain issues that need to be addressed before the country's new mining code is implemented, the miners - which represent over 85% of the DRC's copper, cobalt and gold production and most significant development projects - said in a joint statement.The DRC's civil society, which seeks to advance the social and economic development of its communities, is a member of the Mining Code Revision Tri-Partite group and other key interest groups involved in talks over...
