INTERVIEW: Customers starting to pay for green aluminium, Norsk Hydro CEO says

Consumers are starting to pay a premium for aluminium produced with lower carbon emissions and a limited environmental impact, according to the chief executive officer of Norsk Hydro.

The Norwegian aluminium producer is starting to see traction for its green aluminium products, which include brands Hydro 4.0 and Hydro 75R, Hilde Merete Aasheim told Fastmarkets.

"We'd really like to build on this going forward: We are offering these products and have customers that are willing to pay, even though it's not a long queue of customers at this point," she said during an interview in New York. 

"We wanted to document what we offered in a transparent and assertive way so it was clear. There was not one vocabulary so we wanted to be very clear on what we could offer," she added.
