INTERVIEW: En+ Group eyes future low-carbon partnership with EV company, chair says

En+ Group is eyeing a partnership with the manufacturer of an electric vehicle to produce aluminium with low-carbon greenhouse gas emissions, its executive chairman told Fastmarkets.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday September 21, Lord Gregory Barker said that partnerships of this kind would "absolutely" become more common as the group scaled up its inert anode technology, which generates direct and indirect smelter emissions of 0.01 of a tonne of carbon per tonne of aluminium compared with an industry average of 12 tonnes.
The group, which owns Russian aluminium producer Rusal, has just announced a pilot project with Budweiser Brewing Group, the UK arm of Belgium-based brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), to produce beer cans made of low-carbon aluminium in partnership with rolling company Elval and beverage can maker Canpack.
"The next step is probably to have a similar pioneering partnership with an EV manufacturer, so watch this space," Barker said.
According to Barker, En+ Group is already seeing a great deal of interest in the inert anode technology from consumers.
