INTL FERRO-ALLOY SUMMIT: World manganese ore output to rise by 7.60 mln tonnes in 2021

World manganese ore production will increase by 7.60 million tonnes (13%) in 2021, reflecting a post-pandemic recovery in production and new mining projects mainly in Africa and Australia, according to Eva Yang, China representative at the International Manganese Institute (IMnI).

Speaking at the International Ferro-alloys and Mineral Products Summit held by Ferroalloy.net on Friday June 18, Yang said manganese ore production slip by 8% year on year to 58.60 million tonnes in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
"Production was lowered in most manganese ore origins in the past year, with Africa posting the biggest year-on-year drop of 2.70 million tonnes (8%). And thanks to improved pandemic control and eased production restrictions, miners are ramping up their production," Yang said.
