INTL LEAD & ZINC CONF: Upstream zinc profits to move down into zinc smelting sector - sources

Profits from zinc miners and refiners are expected to move downstream into the zinc smelting sector to reshape the unhealthy and significantly, profits-diverged structure, sources told Fastmarkets MB at the 21st China International Lead and Zinc Conference.

Profits in the upstream zinc mining and refining sectors has risen by 8% year on year in the first nine months of 2018, while those in the smelting sector dropped dramatically by 69% in the corresponding period, Xia Cong, the Antaike spokeswoman told delegates on November 2. The steep fall in profits for zinc smelting was a result of the low-lingering treatment charges (TCs) and falling spot prices...
