ITALY STEEL SCRAP: Prices jump in December; steelmakers struggle to buy required volumes

Domestic prices for ferrous scrap in Italy increased significantly in the month to Tuesday December 15, supported by the global uptrend as well as a material shortage in the domestic market, sources told Fastmarkets this week.

Fastmarkets' monthly price assessment for steel scrap, No E3 (old thick scrap), domestic, delivered mill, Italy was ?,?260-265 ($316-322) per tonne on  December 15, up by ?,?25-40 per tonne month on month from ?,?220-240 per tonne on November 13.
The assessment was based on the latest deals done in the second week of this month, with scrap suppliers reluctant to sell material below ?,?280 per tonne delivered.
