Colorado School of Mines and Confluence Companies will break ground on a $44 million, 249-bed student housing development at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 4, 2018.

Set to open in 2020, the four-story residence hall at 1750 Jackson St. will house 107 apartment-style units, as well as a fitness center, bike maintenance area, study and social lounges, laundry facilities, covered parking, two outdoor courtyards and 4,000 square feet of commercial space.

The project is being made possible through a public-private partnership between Mines and Confluence Companies - the first public-private development in Mines history. Confluence will develop the housing and then lease it to Mines for 30 years before turning over sole ownership to the university.

The Jackson Street residence hall is the first of two Mines student housing developments that will break ground this year to move the university closer to its strategic goal of housing all freshmen and sophomores on campus. Construction on the second project, a $49 million, 400-bed residence hall at 18th and Illinois streets, is set to begin in Q4 2018.
