Japan steel scrap exports crash 26% in Jan-Feb despite China sales jump

Exports of steel scrap from Japan fell by 26.2% year on year in January-February 2021, although volumes shipped to China jumped sharply, the latest data from Japanese customs shows.

Japan exported 501,006 tonnes of steel scrap in January and 639,148 tonnes in February to make a combined 1.14 million tonnes. That was down from the 1.54 million tonnes exported over the same period of 2020, customs data shows.
