(Kitco News) - Jervois Global (TSX-V: JRV) todayannounced that underground construction of its 100%-owned Idaho CobaltOperations ("ICO") in the state of Idaho, United States, has commenced.
"This historic step marks thefirst time in decades that the United States will have a primary cobalt minewithin its borders. With Jervois's commencement of underground work, the UnitedStates has taken an important leap forward toward a secure cobalt supply chain,"the company said in its statement.
Jervois added that during thelast quarter, it has conducted portal bench construction and extension work toenable development of the mine to start in Q4 2021.
ICO construction, procurementand engineering schedule remains on track, with commissioning and firstproduction of cobalt concentrate expected from mid-2022, the company noted.
Importantly, Jervois pointedout that separate copper concentrates also expected to be produced and sold toNorth American customers in parallel, with current copper prices significantlyabove the US$3.00 per lb applied in the ICO BFS.
