The Jewelers' Security Alliance (JSA) appointed three new officers at its most recent event and finalized the reelection of its chair, Steven Kaiser.Kaiser, the CEO of luxury jeweler Kennedy North America, will serve another three-year term, the JSA said last week. Meanwhile, Alan Zimmer, CEO of Reeds Jewelers, was elected as vice chairperson, while Mark Udell, the president of London Jewelers, will become secretary. David Tearle, the chief financial officer of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), will come on board as treasurer. All three have signed on for three years.At the event, the JSA presented two awards, honoring GIA CEO Susan Jacques with the 17th Annual Industry Award for her contribution to the safety and security of the trade. Through the GIA, Jacques has advocated for and provided free, in-depth training classes on gemology and the jewelry industry to law enforcement for many years, noted JSA president John Kennedy.The JSA also gave the 23rd Annual James B. White Award to Law Enforcement to Robert Lanier, a 32-year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department in Florida. During his time as a detective, he has investigated numerous violent jewelry-store robberies and attacks on traveling salespeople, and has worked undercover at the Jewelers International Showcase (JIS) shows in Miami Beach.Image: Steven Kaiser.
