RAPAPORT... The International Gemological Institute (IGI) will perform valuation services for the pieces listed on Luxus, a precious-gem and high-jewelry investment platform. Through this partnership, IGI's evaluation team will generate appraisal reports for each piece of jewelry on the Luxus platform, the parties announced Tuesday. The institute will include the item's retail replacement value and grading attributes, as well as proof of authenticity. "On top of opening the door for investors to partake in ownership of the world's rarest assets, we're working directly with an industry leader in jewelry grading to ensure our assets are best-in-class and [that the initial public offering (IPO)] valuation is at the best possible price," said Dana Auslander, founder and CEO of Luxus. In addition, Luxus will have access to IGI's digital education resources, which the platform will be able to incorporate into its web-based applications. Using IGI's library, Luxus plans to educate the investment community on how precious gems and high jewelry can benefit their portfolios. "This partnership with Luxus allows us to leverage our diversified audiences and grow their understanding of the value of diamonds and gemstones," said Avi Levy, IGI's North American president. Luxus launched its "alternative investment platform" in May with a rare pink Argyle diamond as its inaugural asset, in partnership with jewelers Kwiat and Fred Leighton. Luxus collaborates with luxury brands to offer retail investors fractional ownership in jewelry, rare watches, accessories and ethically sourced gems.
