(IDEX Online) - Six employees at a New York jewelry store were attacked with bear spray in a shocking $800,000 heist.
Gang members sprayed the bear-repelling aerosol - like pepper spray but stronger - at Revel Jewelers, in the Bronx, last Wednesday.
Workers were taken to hospital suffering bear spray exposure - stinging eyes, noses and lungs, and coughing fits.
Ten masked raiders smashed glass display cases with hammers and fled with what police described as "a large quantity of jewelry" and other items worth $800,000.
Bear spray is legal in the US and can readily be bought over the counter.
The perpetrators escaped in a blue sedan. If you have any information please contact the Jewelers' Security Alliance at jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org or 212-687-0328.
