LatAm steel use up 27% in March, rises 17% in Q1, Alacero says

Latin America's apparent steel use grew by 27.04% in March this year over the corresponding month of 2020, while consumption increased by 17.03% on the same basis of comparison during the first quarter, regional association Alacero said on Thursday June 17.

Steel consumption in the region totaled 6.72 million tonnes in March, up from 5.29 million tonnes a year before, according to data from the association. First-quarter usage was 18.41 million tonnes, rising from 15.74 million tonnes in the January-March period last year.

Meanwhile, crude steel output reached 5.47 million tonnes in April, according to the latest data, rising by 52.90% from 3.58 million tonnes a year before....
