Latin America's steel use to grow less than expected in 2019

Latin America's apparent steel use is expected to grow by 2.80% in 2019, despite weaker demand in Argentina, according to regional steel association Alacero.

Apparent steel consumption is expected to reach 68.90 million tonnes in 2019, up from 67 million tonnes in 2018, Alacero said."We see a recovery in Latin America's steel consumption, albeit slower than we previously expected," Alacero's general director Francisco Leal said.Previously, Alacero expected the region's steel use to reach 70.60 million tonnes this year."At the current pace, Latin America will only recover to 2014's level of 72 million tonnes by 2020," Leal added.The revision...
