Latin America steel output down 8.4% in 2020, Alacero says

Latin American crude steel production fell by 8.4% in 2020 over the previous year due to operations being halted or limited especially in the second quarter as a result of restrictions imposed in several countries to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, regional steel association Alacero said on Thursday February 11.

According to data from Alacero, crude steel output totaled 55.56 million tonnes in Latin America during 2020, down from 60.68 million tonnes in 2019. Concurrently, rolled steel production was 46.29 million tonnes, a 9.7% year-on-year decline from 51.24 million tonnes.
