Latin American steel consumption to fall 14.5% in 2020, Alacero says

Latin American apparent steel consumption is expected to fall by 14.5% in 2020, compared with the previous year, according to the most recent forecast from regional steel association Alacero.

Steel consumption is expected to reach 55.68 million tonnes this year, compared with 65.1 million tonnes in 2019, the association said on Tuesday September 22.
The forecast is an improvement from an earlier Alacero forecast in July, which predicted a 17% decrease in steel consumption for 2020, but is down from the association's expectation that steel consumption would reach 66 million tonnes, up 2.8% from 2019 levels.
