(IDEX Online) - Lightbox, the lab grown company launched by De Beers in 2018, says its diamonds have been certified as carbon neutral by the Carbon Trust. It uses 100% renewable wind energy to produce stones at its recently-built $94m facility near Portland, Oregon, USA.And it offsetts any remaining greenhouse gas emissions it produces through carbon certified offset projects supporting the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in more emission-intensive locations, in Bangladesh China and India, where it cuts and polishes its stones.Last October, Swarovski said it would offset the energy used to produce its lab growns and would have the process certified as climate neutral. UK-based Carbon Trust says it partners with leading businesses, governments and financial institutions to accelerate their route to Net Zero."Today's announcement is an important milestone on our path to sustainability," said Antoine Borde, Lightbox CEO."Reducing the environmental impact of creating our lab-grown diamonds is an important priority, and we will continue to pursue this goal by taking additional steps to achieve a carbon neutral position across our entire organization."Pic shows the Lightbox factory in Oregon, USA.
