(IDEX Online) - Lightbox is selling lower quality polished lab growns with a 25 per cent discount. The De Beers-owned company is charging $600 per carat, for its Lightbox Basics collection - white stones in a "modern sterling silver bezel setting" - rather than its standard $800.It says the Basics stones are all guaranteed to be at least SI clarity, faint color, and a very good cut. Standard Lightbox diamonds are VS1-VS2, also with a very good cut. Its Finest range, at $1,500 per carat, are VVS clarity, and D, E, or F color and excellent cut."We're big on consistency," says the company on its website. "So when one of our white stones grows with even the tiniest bit more color than usual, we make a big deal of it. That's why we're happy to offer these still-beautiful stones at 25 per cent off."De Beers rocked the diamond world in May 2018 when it announced the launch of a lab grown range. In November 2020 opened a $94m factory near Portland, Oregon, USA, which was, at the time, producing 200,000 carats a year.It also has a Lightbox Loose range, launched in October 2021 to meet the demand for custom-made pieces. Its lab growns had, until then, been available only in ready-made pieces of fashion jewelry.Pic of Lightbox Basics earrings, courtesy Lightbox
