Lithium carbonate prices in China further boosted by trader restocking

The price of technical-grade lithium carbonate in China rose for the second time since mid-June this week, amid active trader restocking, thereby improving sentiment in the battery-grade chemicals market, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets' lithium carbonate 99% Li2CO3 min, technical and industrial grade, spot price range exw domestic China edged up to 79,000-80,000 yuan ($12,189-12,344) per tonne on Thursday July 1, up by 1,000 yuan per tonne, or 1.27%, from 77,000-80,000 yuan per tonne a week earlier.
Prior to that, the technical-grade chemical price had been stable for two weeks having rebounded from 76,000-78,000 yuan per tonne on June 3, with some profit-taking activities coming to an end in the spot market. Some suppliers chose to destock units in May following the restart and ramp-up of operations in Qinghai province, which pushed the price down by 2.53% at a monthly basis in May.

With an acknowledgement that the technical-grade lithium carbonate price in China might have reached a floor, and in anticipation that some lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery manufacturers in China...
