LIVE FUTURES 22/03: New 2021 high for LME aluminium; zinc, nickel up 1%

Aluminium's futures price reached yet another year-to-date high at $2,289.50 per tonne during trading on the London Metal Exchange on Monday March 22, with supply concerns for the metal continuing, and with all base metals prices up day-on-day at the close.

The price of aluminium closed at $2,272 per tonne, $7 per tonne higher than on Friday, while its intraday high point on Monday was its highest since June 13, 2018. Its volumes, at 17,500 lots traded by 5:20pm, were higher than copper's for a fourth straight day.
Despite a large intake of material into LME warehouses two weeks ago, availability of aluminium remained tight across Europe and the United States due to high freight rates and competitive premiums in Asia.
